    Alternate Endings
But before this ending, there was an original one that McG had to change after it leaked online. Writer Michael Ferris recently described the old ending to io9.

"There was an ending of intermediate darkness, in which ... the mechanical Marcus takes over as Connor and goes on to lead the resistance," he said. "It's essentially a secret to everybody, except the inner circle, that John Connor is now a robot, is now a Terminator. We're going for some irony there."

McG added that there was also a second ending that was even darker. "We had a jet-black ending. Connor dies, we're in a room with all the people we care about," he explained. "You take Connor's likeness, you put it on the living machine of Marcus. He sits up, now looking like Christian Bale, takes a gun, kills Kate, kills Kyle, kills Star, kills everybody, eyes flare red, [snaps] the end."

  • * Will we see "Salvation" in IMAX theaters? "I wanted to shoot the film with this dead stock [old film that has been distressed to give the movie a desaturated look]. Therefore it wasn't conducive to shooting it in IMAX format. But we're going to bump it up to IMAX. We are going to bump it up, and it holds up very nicely, and it looks and sounds that much more impactful. But one price we had to pay for making those choices was that we didn't shoot in IMAX."

    * The three previous "Terminator" films have been R-rated. Is there a rating that you're aiming for? "I'm not hung up about a PG-13. We don't aim for a rating, and we've been given freedom by the head of the studio to just make the best picture possible."

    * What will be the runtime of the movie? "It's probably going to be right around two hours, maybe a little more than two hours, but we're not trying to target. I want a movie to have a correct length to have the maximum impact and give you something to think about as you exit the theater."

    * Have you spoken to Arnold Schwarzenegger? "I spoke to Schwarzenegger, and I will be showing him the film shortly. I've got a lot to talk to him about in regard to the role he plays in this. He's such a part of it, the degree to which he'll be part of our film, you've got to be respectful of the seat he's in right now. We have to be sensitive, be intelligent, and he's our partner."

    * Are you concerned about "Transformers 2"? "Well, I refer to the work of Michael Bay to eliminate what not to do. That's a joke. Truthfully, the Harvester is a little reminiscent of a Transformer, and I don't want that. It's an ancillary character in our film, and our film is so different. I like those [Transformers] movies, but we're not making that movie, and I say that in fun because I truly talked to Michael Bay two hours ago, because he took a jab at us. He emailed me today, and we talked, and it's a healthy competition. So we'll see who the last man standing is."

    * Are you already planning more than one "Terminator" movie? "We have already broken stories for the second and third movies. We don't explore time travel in this movie, and it's a huge part of the mythology. We're ready to go if audiences say, 'We want it.'"

  • TotalFilm had a chance to chat with "Terminator Salvation" director McG to clear up some rumors that have been floating around the internet. Below are the rumors and McG's answers.

Rumor: The ending posted on AICN claimed that the climax would see John Connor die, only to be resurrected as a robot.
McG: "That is not the ending. John Connor is not the machine. We did discuss that idea, but that is not the ending, I can say that right now."

Rumor: James Cameron did not give McG his blessing.
McG: "I did go to see James Cameron. He didn't give us his blessing, but he didn't sh*t all over our movie. When Jim was making 'Alien,' he was following the great Ridley Scott, so he knows how we feel."

Rumor: Christian Bale had doubts about signing up
McG: "I met Christian when he was shooting 'The Dark Knight.' He told me to f*ck right off, he didn't want to do it. He said, 'Write it so that it could be read cold on stage and I'll think about doing it.'"

Rumor: Arnold Schwarzenegger will appear in the movie.
McG: "We're trying to synthesise a human character with a CGI character and that may or may not have something to do with the T800."
  • Arnie hat gesprochen:
LA Times is reporting that producers put together a private screening of early footage from "Terminator Salvation" for the current California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Unfortunately, Arnold was not too impressed.

"I still don't know how it will play out with this one," he stated. "They showed me some footage, but I don't have a feel for the movie. I didn't see enough. I wasn't sure who the Terminator was. I don't know if there is one or if he's the star or the hero. These are the things that determine the success and how the strong the movie will be."

"Salvation" producers also arranged for the governor to see an early "sizzle reel," a montage of scenes shown at Comic-Con International last month, where "Salvation" was popular with fans.

Schwarzenegger was polite but cautious when he was asked if he thought the reel actually had the sort of sizzle he expected. "I've seen very little footage so I don't really have a feel for it. I hope they do well, and I hope it is a huge hit. I do hope it creates a spectacle on the screen. That is what James Cameron created."
  • Trailer Beschreibung anscheinend kommt ein Teaser mit Dark Knight

A while back, it was reported that a teaser trailer for the upcoming "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" will be shown in front of "The Dark Knight" on July 18th. And now, AICN received a description of the trailer from a person who was lucky enough to participate in a focus group. Here is what the scooper had to say:

"It opens with footage of people out in every day life. Christian Bale voiceovers something like: "I always knew it would happen"... Than a pause... "They told me I could stop it."

The same people begin looking to the sky... "That I could save us." Looks of horror come across their faces as he says, "They were wrong."

Music rises as we cut to black for a second. The Terminator theme starts, with the duh duh, duh, duh, duh. NEXT SUMMER appears on the screen...

We get a quick shot looking out over a sunny desert, and then a shot of Bale, in badass commando uniform and very recognizably the same guy who plays Batman, being lowered into a huge bunker of weapons.

THE FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE rolls across, and we get mixed clips from inside one of the survivor bunkers as seen in Terminator 1 - but they look more concentration campish; very crowded, shots of Bale walking with a large crowd. And then the word... BEGINS.

The music quickly rises as we get a shot of a huge truck racing down a high way, a shot or two of a helicopter flying mixed with more close ups of the actors when Bale whispers, "They're coming."

It all goes quiet. Massive drums blare the beginning of the theme (again) but this time much louder, more pumped up, as we get a metallic silver T that morphs into a 4.

We then get the big money shot of the trailer. Its Bale on a motorcycle with some girl on the back. They speed through a door of what looks like a warehouse toward us. As soon as they pass the screen, a huge terminator on wheels, a lot like the one they battle in the first one, smashes through the wall, chasing them. It looks awesome.
  • Na jetzt kommen langsam die Infos zum Film raus

"Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins," starring Sam Worthington and Christian Bale, began principal photography on May 5th, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star.

"Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" marks the latest installment of the multi-billion dollar Terminator franchise and will be the first film in a new Terminator trilogy. The film is scheduled for a North American theatrical release May 22nd, 2009.

    UPDATE

cG, the director of the upcoming "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins," has began blogging on the official site for the movie and has given fans some concept art of post-judgment day Los Angeles. Here is what McG had to say:

"We've officially started principal photography on 'Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.' Like you guys, I've been a long-time fan of the series and I understand your passion for the Terminator movies -- and it's my full intention to deliver a film that lives up to the previous three installments. I've spent time with James Cameron, spoken to Arnold Schwarzenegger, gone over the story with Jonah Nolan, and enlisted Stan Winston.

Everything we're shooting is designed to be tactile and real, you'll be seeing a whole set of inspired designs you've never seen before, and best of all you'll finally get to see some of the post-judgment day future that was only hinted at in the previous movies.

John Connor will be pushed to the brink. And for me, Christian Bale embodies Connor's strength and tenacity perfectly. And after visiting Sam Worthington on the set of 'Avatar,' I know he's perfect for his role.

As you know, Anton Yelchin is playing Kyle Reese, and his prep has been unbelievable. The guy's been watching all three Terminators incessantly and he's definitely going to capture the essence of the character Michael Biehn created in Cameron's first film.

We started principal photography with a sequence at Griffith Observatory. I've already seen a cut of it - Anton and Sam are excellent. I'll have more on that soon, and can't wait to share some of what we're doing with you all. Stay tuned for more."

    Concept Art:

Christian Bale is to play rebel leader John Connor in three sequels to the Terminator franchise, its producers have revealed. He has already started shooting the first of those films, "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins."

"He's really an actor's actor, so we're very proud," said Victor Kubicek of film company Halcyon. "Christian was our first choice and he's a big fan of The Terminator, so we're very lucky. But with Batman he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond."

"Luckily," said Kubicek's business partner Derek Anderson, "he read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three."
