OK, I realise I'm probably posting this in the wrong place. But I'm back in Vienna now and I went to the GW near Westbahnhof the other day and picked up a load of paint (Also had a chat to the guy working there, who is originally English Really cool guy and really helpful)

Anyway, I started my Novamarine terminators. I'm much happier with how these guys have turned out! Really hoping to come to the club next Wednesday, I'll keep a lookout for the thread.

Yeah the GW washes really do a good job for a minimum effort, they are a fine painting tool.

Also dont worry about youre bad German, we are Austrians so our German isnt that good either.

Your Marines are quite good painted for a newcomer - i would advise you to wash your models with the GW Washes, the improvement will be massive if you apply it decently

Thanks for the great advice. Makes sense just to get them painted up asap to get playing, I didn't really think of that.

Here's what I've got so far. Did this with only the citadel hobby set (just the starter brush )

Novamarine is unarmed at the moment (quite literally!)

That's a good way to start! As long as you are content with your painted space marines they're good. Keep those 3 days a figure paintjobs for your commanders, standard bearers and similar special figurines. This way you will have a fully painted army at your service in quite a brief time while the overall impression will be great.
If you want to have the full monty and field a whole army of amazingly painted figurines, I advise you to keep that for your second army

Although painted figurines would be preferable, no one will chop off your head, if you show up with unpainted ones

In fact, a lot of the guys don´t have their armies totally painted.
Sometimes they even don´t use the proper figurines..

But PLEASE - don´t stop painting your marines by now

Thought I should keep you updated. I went into the local GW and picked up AOBR and the Citadel Hobby Set.

Already started painting a few Space Marines up as...Ultramarines. Very original right? Although, I love the Novamarines colour scheme so I've started one of them too. My painting isn't brilliant but I'm enjoying it! The rules are as complicated (but satisfyingly challenging) as I expected.

Really looking forward to coming to the club in a couple of weeks (12th Jan maybe?) to see how it all works. I don't think I'll have them all painted by then though, would that be a problem?.

Right now, I'm not really too interested in the Orks. So I've left them in the sprues. I'm thinking of selling the Orks to raise some money for a Space Marine Battleforce box, but I'm getting ahead of myself here.

Hi Ebsy!

I moved from Carinthia to Vienna a couple semesters ago and was welcomed really friendly as a new member of the local community - so don't worry being the "new guy". You don't need to worry either if you do not know the rules yet due to the fact that the club offers a lot of opportunities to get used to them. The easiest way to learn them is, in my experience, to play some games and learn them "on demand"

In my opinion there won't be a language barrier because of the simple fact that most of the club members are students and in Austria a student has to master at least a certain level of English which should be sufficient to play Warhammer and to chat a little bit

I am really looking forward to welcome you at the club - i am sure you are going to be an enrichment for all of us.

Thanks *very* much for the reply. I was a little bit worried about whether I could attend the club and whether people would accept a noob with bad German! but you've really made me feel welcome.

I'm going to the local GW here tomorrow and I'm definitely picking up AOBR. I've been reading a lot about the rules and codices recently so I wont be totally clueless when it finally comes to playing my first game. I'm obviously wanting to paint the minis as well as play but I have to decide which army to choose. The Orks don't really interest me that much but I know a lot of people choose the Space Marines.

I'm thinking of either Space Marines, Imperial Guard or Chaos Space Marines at the moment but only because they 'look cool' maybe I'll change my mind after a few games.

I plan on becoming a full member and 30 EUR a year is more than resonable. So, I'll buy AOBR, come to the club a few times and see how it works and we'll take it from there.

I went into Damage Unlimited a few days ago before I came back to England and the two guys working there were very helpful and friendly when I asked about AOBR and they really got me interested in 40k again....So, schau ma mal.

There are no beginner nights per se...the club is free for first timers ...40k night is wednesday starting at approximately 17.00 but most of the time somebody opens the door earlier.. depends on the keyholder...best to be informed here...if somebody is playing 40k on Friday or the weekend it will posted in a thread usually named something like"xx.xx.2011 40k Clublokal offen?" in this "Clublokal Wien - Loeschenkohlgasse" subforum.

If you give notice in the "wednesday thread" there should be someone in the club to help you feel comfortable and give you a game...unfortunately not all of our guys are feeling comfy talking english ;)....especially if you have only a small army a game should be quick going...maybe you should even get some tipps on what to buy before you start buying expensive models which are maybe a waste?
But getting the assault on Black reach box is never a waste...both for orcs or marines there is no waste in there...even I bought one through ebay...though my first army was Tau...I sold the marines and orcs to friends...for 20? each..but the rulebook, templates and dice come in handy

Hi Everyone!

First of all, I'm really sorry that this post is in English, but my German is really bad and I didn't want to use something like Google Translate to post a message in German.

I'm a 29 year old English guy from Liverpool and I moved to Vienna in October. I'm back in England right now for Christmas and I was thinking of picking up the 40K starter pack - "Assault on Black Reach" in English before I get back to Vienna in a few weeks.

I've wanted to get into 40K for a few years now but I didn't really know anyone who was interested in playing. But now I've found this forum/club so it seems I can find a lot of people to play with in Vienna.

Like I said, my German is awful but I can understand a lot more than I can say. Would the club be friendly to English newbies who are just starting out and want to learn how to play? Do you have beginners nights?
