Never having been to a tournament before, Astronomicon Toronto was a great place to start.. Extremely well organized and executed, with varied and unique scenarios.. Lots of fun, still not sure I want to attend a GT ever, but this was certainly a great replacement..
The special guest there was Pete Haines. Of course, there was a Q&A session at the end, and a few bits and pieces were revealed.
1) 40K v.4, should be out by this time next year; not exactly news but a sort of confirmation.
2) The upcoming codex release order is: Witchhunters (obviously), Space Marines (about to begin production ruleswise), Tyranids (revamp of the codex, which is still just in the "we'll do that next" phase, with some conceptual ideas), then codex battlezone "boarding actions" (not really a codex, but its what the design team will apparently be working on after the Nids)...
I found that part odd, from the perspective that I heard nothing at all about the Eldar, and all the rumours seemed to point to them getting a redo sometime in the near future..
Pete did mention that the plastic waveserpent is coming soon, and when he did mention the new Eldar codex, it still seemed conceptual, and as if they still weren't sure exactly what changes to make (i.e. Exodites, Harlequins in the same dex)
3) Space Marine codex will be their first full colour codex. Not sure how that's revolutionary, but it certainly sounds nice. Space Marine Chapter "traits" will be ways to create your own chapter, but wont be as extensive as IG Doctrines. That's probably the wrong terminology and not exactly what Pete said.. Though I imagine what he means is the new Space Marine dex will be more about modifying units, rather than rules that affect your entire army (i.e. mechanised, drop troop doctrines, etc)..
4) Subchapters of some of the first founding chapters will get full codexes, as big as the main army ones. Other than being able to include more background information, the main gist of which seems to be not forcing Dark Angel players (for example) to have to buy the Space Marine codex as well.. So no mini dex with references to the main codex.
5) Next 40K campaign will not revisit the Eye of Terror.. The idea being to move the backstory along, and then move to another theatre of war.
6) Another new race is being considered for future production (long long off), the Demiurg are one of them (among quite a few).. Maybe the years of ceaseless squat pressure will achieve you all something.
There were other things I'm sure, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.. More if I remember it..
All in all an excellent time..
