Hello Austria from Prague

      Hello Austria from Prague

      Hello everyone,

I am a British historical wargamer living in Prague, the Czech Republic. I was told about this forum by Greymouse and so I thought I would join.

We have a growing group of wargamers here in Prague, this is our website - phwg.wz.cz/index-ge.htm

I thought maybe we could talk about visiting each other and playing some games? Vienna is 3 or 4 hours drive from Prague so maybe we could do this?

      Nick
That would definitely be an interesting idea.

Are you able to write in german, too? Because not everybody here in the Festung is so good in other languages...

But even more important. What tabletop games are you playing in the Czech Republic mostly?

      Greetings,
      Gerald

P.S.: Is it true you are from Spain? Because your Profile says so...

Yes I think so. We already here have some contacts with gamers from Southern Poland and I thought why not extend them :)

No I am sorry I can't. I can understand / work out a little German but not much. I am British and so genetically incapable of speaking any other language :)

But even more important. What tabletop games are you playing in the Czech Republic mostly?

I personally play historical battles - all periods of history but my favourite is 1700 to 1880. I think I have the all the Austrian armies from this time :)

But the most popular here are the warhammer/games workshop games. Systems like Flames of war are starting to be played here as well now.

My group just play historical battles though and with many different rules. At the moment I would guess that Napoleonic battles are the most popular and we use a set of rules called 'Shako' for this period.

What games are played in Austria?

P.S.: Is it true you are from Spain? Because your Profile says so...

No I come from near Birmingham in the UK. I have lived in Prague for 5 years now. I choose Spain because theere was not a 'British' or 'Czech' choice and I had to chose something to join :)

      Greetings to the Czech Republic!
It's great to become more international, and about visiting: Great idea! We should make this more concrete some time.
We for the most part play the typical GW-systems ie WHFB and 40K, as well as many of the smaller systems (Blood Bowl, Mordheim and so on). However, as you (I guess) already noticed, we also started playing Flames of War.
So be welcome in this forum!

Well it is good to be here :)

Here in the Czech Republic we have regular gaming weekends called Ogr Cubb (the shop that runs the event is called Ogri Doupe which means Ogre's Lair and it is from this). There are pictures of the last event, a few weeks ago, here - phwg.wz.cz/EIDOLON.htm.

Do you have a similar event in Austria? Maybe in Wien?

It seems to me that it would be a good idea if maybe we come to a similar event to this in Austria and maybe some Austrians could come to Ogr Cubb sometime :)

I am playing the Napoleonic game - I am the one in a red shirt on the last photo.

Languages: Well actually I am quite a linguist for a British guy :) I can speak 2 other languages :] Unfortunately these languages are Welsh and Czech and so not really too international :(

In Vienna we have 2 Clubs (in the not that distant future it's going to be just 1, because all of us think, it's the more productive way) with our own location (and independent from any shops). We meet each other on a quite regular basis (at about 4 times a week), and each month we have a tournament (one month 40K, the other one fantasy) and are running a Blood Bowl League. We'd welcome you and your friends to come along some time.

Well, I'm going to discuss this matter with some of us, 'cause if we are coming, then in a group, and I'm sure, there will be some people to come.

Well... One is from your own Island (and one of the hardest idioms, I've heard), and the other one is quite from the central of Europe, so international enough (for a british :D).
Most of us should at least understand the basics in english, so it shouldbe no great problem.

Have you heard of Hwiccee? It is the old Anglo Saxon kingdom that I come from. It was part of Mercia by the time of Athelstan :) Before this it was an independant kingdom of its own.

I too am interested in this period but more so the earlier period when Mercia rules Britain - Offa and Penda are my heroes :)

Have you tried using the Warhammer Ancient Battles Viking list and adding magic, etc to that? Just an idea.

I have done a little of the same idea but for 'Sub Roman British' - this is Arthurian British in normal language :)

I have not heard of this before. Have you heard of Caedfael? He is a detective/monk in 12th century Britain. The books are very good. It sounds like this Athelstan is the same idea - is he a 'detective'?

That is good news because my Welsh and Czech are not very good really :)
yes i know caedfael - its from ellis peters, isn'T it? i have some books from caedfael the monk. they are pretty ok, but for my taste to less blood and thrill :D

for paul harding - looks here: amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/deta…v=glance&s=books&n=507846

his real name is paul doherty, paul harding is a synonym.

for my army list i used all my army books and rule book of warhammer fantasy. i have the warhammer historic book, also shieldwall. but the points and rules and dates are not the same like i need for fantasy. but i could take out some nice ideas. :))

      Hello Hwiccee,

nice to hear from Warhammergamers out of Austria.

I'm sure that most users in the Festung will understand your English. But this is the same like Athelstan had said.

My English isn't as well as their English, but I think i can communicate with you easily. :D Also when I make some grammatical mistakes.

Athelstan and Turin said the most important, that in Vienna there exist 2 big clubs, which use to organize monthly tournaments.

If you and your club decides to come to Vienna to play some games, I'll be there. I'm interested in outlandish clubs and their style to play, maybe not other as our style. I hope your club is coming as soon as your team is ready.

      cheers Paul
