Just got the new white dwarf and have been looking at the new beastmen list. Some of it I like. Some of it I dont.

Prior to 6th edition I had very little interest in chaos armies. My dedication to Bretonnia was absolute and Chaos was only a foe to be beaten on the field of battle. With 6th edition came the demise of Bretonnia as a world power. Disapointed with the ravening hordes list I joined Earl Cadfael in developing the unofficial army book for Bretonnia and I have collected all the army books released so far, studying each with an eye for strength and weakness.
I have no idea what beastmen were really like in the early days of warhammer. But the integration of the chaos gods, beastmen, mortals, and daemons is an improvement over 5th edition seperation. It makes the army more appropriately chaotic.

The preview list adds the "Ambush" deployment rule. Similar to a rule used in 40k but more predictable. I like it very much!
The new "Mob Rule" idea is somewhat less appealing to me.
    Gavin says that-
"...Beastmen are the most unruly troops in the Warhammer world- even moreso than Orcs and Goblins!"
I can accept that, but the rules given in the preview list do NOT support that statement. Mob Rule is a "good" thing for the beastmen players, allowing poor, cheap troops to be linned up behind their betters, and support them with spears. They move as skirmishers but can line up for combat and still get rank bonus. This doesnt sound like an unrully mob to me! No animosity, no lousy leadership, unlimited core beastigors, this does not sound like the description in the artlicle. (check out this quote)
"The Beastmen pour from their forests in endless masses, stretching across the horizon." (ok so far) "Often the horde breaks into warring factions, for the Beastmen are children of Chaos, and organization and order are concepts alien to them."

Well if that is really the case we should expect to see some form of the animosity rules in the final book.

    cheers
