I checked the team roster (dreadball-roster-v1-3) and there appeared no problem when upgrading a (already steady) guard to keeper. Maybe you choose the wrong guy (a jack i.E.; this will result in "This player cannot be a keeper") by mistake or didn't allow the sheet to calculate automatically.
From the rule side there is no problem problem too, Mantic sells Teraton keepers with the team booster package

Looks like the problem appears only in roster v1.4. V1.3 works fine

I checked the version 1.4 from: thepaintingmonkey.wordpress.com/dreadball-roster-creator/

- There occured no problem to upgrade a guard with steady and keeper when editing with Excel (I used MS Office Prof. 2013).

- The problem occurs only with OpenOffice (I used OO v4.1.1). The document is locked, so I can't solve the problem.

You can get an MS Office starter for free here: freeware.de/download/microsoft-office-starter/ (pls read the whole text about the prog). I never used this.

Another alternative would be to use the sheet within google drive. There will be no dropdown lists and you have to enter changes of player skills (and attributes + change of attributes for being a keeper etc.).... by typing it by yourself, but it works. Ninja Turtles 0 - 4 Cheesecake ComRats
The Turtles scored 2 points in the first rush of an brutal game. The rats had their pain moving the ball out of the Turtles thread zones. The Turtles build up well cage-like defences to cover the ball or the carrier. So the Ratguards had to kick the ball out of the TZs, but the ball often scattered to another thread zone.....finally the coach decided to pick it up with being threatened and the rats did fine with this. The turtles smashed their way through the rats with 6 rats beeing punched to the sin-bin and 1 to the grave (in pieces....), another 2 guys even smelled the death with beeing sin-bin'ed for 3 rushes. But also 1 turtle left the pitch forever as a rat Guard slammed him out of his shell with 7 successes vs zero. The star striker Toni Sewer scored 2 times for 3 points and the turtles were beaten.
