50 % sale damage

Guys I am sorry for asking in English...

but it what is going on with this shop? In the past it used to be a good shop... Nowadays they reduced the size, not anymore the gaming club... And do you know he is buying all stuff from Willhaben and selling it in the shop? It is amazing....
I would never recommend that shop again, although it is fun to stroll trough it and have look at their dusty goods. Once.

The thing that makes me quite angry is that is is listed in a lot shopping guides as one of the best stores in vienna related to games and so. THIS has to change in my eyes - they have to work for this kind of reputation, not just float on top because of the lack of competition and proper research done by the guides' authors.

Can you please explain, that sounds so suspense-packed! Let's tell us!

      preface:
I think that is a valid tactic for a second hand store to use modern channels to get stuff. But there is a moral issue when doing so.

The lack of research definitely has a lot to do with that. However, most shopping guides are not catered to us nerds as a peer group, but to other people, who are looking for less interesting games, when they enter a games store. Since the Spielerei has been closed down, I recon no other store has offered an equal selection of "normal" board games and similar stuff.

I don't want to defend them, but not every complaint is really warranted. Personally, I only go there, when I need something specific like a primer, just to look whether they have it on site.

Also: what do you think the moral issue would be by using willhaben.at this way?

moral issue: buying off private persons to sell with a markup as a (regular) business practice.

It is just not ok to buy stuff off a person by haggling it down to the bottom level and then putting it onto the own booth for twice (or more) that price. That is why I basicly stopped selling stuff to other traders on conventions (e.g. Figuren- / Viedeospiel-/ & Foto-Börse). Fleamarkets are prone to that behaviour too: The sellers scout thru the market to get stuff for themselves, which they can sell at a better price.

I don't agree with that. People will sell to the shop because they don't want to put in the work of selling something and/or because they just want to get rid of something and take a small amount of money instead of throwing stuff away. I don't get the impression that they have a pawn shop mentality where they buy for a ridiculous price because the person selling is desperate for money. I also doubt that they are making a lot of money with this.

This is what retail business is all about: you buy cheaper than you sell, otherwise you go bankrupt. I don't see the moral issue here.

To elaborate a bit on Ruffy's point:
People sell for a low price either they just want to get rid of it, are absolutely okay with the price or nobody will buy for a higher price in a given timeframe and a given market. If people really want to sell for a higher price, then they should wait, use multiple channels (different forums, ebay and willhaben instead of just one) and just not sell for a price that is not okay to them.
We are not talking about a person's day job to earn a living, but about hobby related stuff that they are selling. It's not that anybody's life depended on selling their Warhammer army, at least not in Austria.

On the other hand, if people are willing to buy hobby stuff for a ridiculous amount of money (and honestly, most of us here are, otherwise we were not users of this forum), so be it. A reseller adds a margin that people are willing to pay, not just for nothing but for financing their own business model, which includes running a retail channel for second hand goods open to people who would otherwise not get them (possibly because they just do not use channels like willhaben or ebay).

There are several things at the damage to criticize, but reselling second hand stuff isn't one of them.

No, second hand goods belong to the people who buy them, they may do whatever they want with it, including reselling them at a higher price.

Dude, you should seriously rethink your understanding of a free market society.
